People tend to equate the bathroom with privacy. And although you can’t see anyone when you’re behind a closed stall door, that doesn’t mean you’re alone or that people can’t hear you.
The other day, I was discussing bathroom habits with some colleagues. And here’s what we suggest you keep in mind when using the office lav:
It’s Not the Place for Personal Calls…: We’ve all been in public and work restrooms where someone in a stall picks up the phone and starts talking about just how cute that guy was she met last Saturday night. Beware of bathroom acoustics, and be sensitive to the fact that the bathroom is not the place for these conversations. And while you’re at it, consider putting your cell phone on vibrate.
Or Conversations About Coworkers: I’ve walked in on hushed, detailed discussions about issues with that coworker who sits in the next cube. Remember, you never know who might walk in or who’s already in a locked stall.
